Hello There: Malaika Firth

I was thrilled to see model Malaika Firth starring in the SS’14 Burberry Campaign (above) alongside a bevy of other pastel adorned Bright Young (British) Things.

Yes, I admit, am biased in my support of this 19 year old upcoming model (I was raised on the Kenyan coast, near when Malika’s mother and her family are from) but mark my words, this model is set for BIIIG things.

Malaika burst onto the fashion scene last July when she bagged a Prada Campaign (left) making her the first black model to represent the brand since Naomi Campbell in 1994 (the year Malaika was born!)  Since then, the Kenyan and Essex raised model has graced the cover of a Vogue supplement (above) walked a gazillion fashion week shows and even strutted down the Victoria Secret catwalk (below right, a role she was clearly destined for given that her name is Swahili for ‘Angel!’)

I first noticed Malaika when I was reviewing the Valentino SS’14 show.  I was utterly struck by her ethereal poise in what was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and exotic looks from the entire SS’14 Fashion Month (above left).

Trust me people, watch this space face.

Kate Moss Joins British Vogue as Contributing Editor

And just when I thought that NOTHING could possibly bring a smile to my face on this miserably rainy day, British Vogue Editor Alexandra Shulman announces that Kate Moss will join the magazine as a contributing editor from Spring 2014.  Ohhh, I’m smiling!!  Shulman revealed, "I am absolutely delighted that Kate is going to work with us in this new role. Her undoubtedly brilliant sense of style, depth of fashion knowledge, and understanding of what makes a wonderful image will be exciting to see used in the pages of British Vogue. I am really looking forward to working with her on ideas."
With the supermodel having covered an amazing 33 issues of British Vogue since 1993 (most of which I have meticulously stockpiled on my bookshelf at home) I can’t imagine anyone more qualified for this coveted role.

"We are absolutely thrilled at Kate's appointment," said Sarah Doukas, founder of Storm Models, who represent Moss. "This is a natural development in her remarkable career.  Bringing her unique  sense of style and  creative sensibility to Vogue is the perfect fit. She is the definitive Vogue cover girl."
This announcement comes only a week after it was revealed that Kate would once again resume her design collaboration with Topshop, with her next collection to be launched in April 2014.

Christy Turlington-Burns for Calvin Klein

44 year old original supermodel Christy Turlington-Burns has replaced 29 year oldLara Stone as the beautiful face and smoldering body of Calvin Klein Underwear.  Famous for modeling for the brand in the nineties, Christy looks better than ever in the new AW’13 lingerie collection shot by Mario Sorrenti in Puerto Rico. With new campaign contracts for Jason Wu and Prada signed, it looks like Christy is BACK. A born-again Supermodel, Hallelujah!

Kate Moss Covers British Vogue June 2012

With red lips, retro curls, a white gladiator Versace dress and Kara Ross Crescent earrings, Kate Moss smolders on the cover of this month’s 'Going for Gold' British Vogue.

Only weeks ahead of this summer’s Olympic Games and Jubilee celebrations, this remarkable, and distinctly patriotic, edition of Vogue pays tribute to both British sporting legends and national treasures alike.

This is thirty-eight year old Croydon-born supermodel Kate Moss’ 32nd British Vogue cover and she was shot by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott looking every inch an Olympic goddess and British beauty.

Snap!  Does Kate Moss’ pose, clutching a thick coil of rope look familiar?  A couple of years ago photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott used the exact same rope (right) in their Emporio Armani campaign, featuring yet another national treasure (and British beauty!) David Beckham.

Versace studded leather and silk dress (from £4,030) and Kara Ross Crescent earrings, (£100) are available from Harvey Nichols.
